Outdoor Activities, Kenai Peninsula

The Kenai Peninsula is the outdoor playground to Alaskans because so many activities are easily accessible from the highway system. In addition to the world-class fishing and clamming, the area offers hiking, bicycling, canoeing/kayaking, sailing, flightseeing tours, wildlife viewing, birding, nature based tours, photography, golfing, hunting, cross country skiing, ATV/snowmachining trails, sled dog rides, and ice racing. In addition, there are numerous cultural activities including museums, visitor centers, historic sites, art galleries, theater, and musical performances.

The Lodge is centrally located on the west side of the Kenai Peninsula and all of the major tourist attractions are within a two hour drive. The Kenai Fjords National Park nature boat tour out of Seward should be a "must do" on your activities list. This national park, the only one on the Kenai Peninsula, is home to stellar sea lions, otters, orca and grey whales, and many species of aquatic birds, including puffins. You will also get up close and personal with calving glaciers as well as cruise in the scenic Resurrection Bay.

Native Alaskan, Russian, and American heritages are found throughout the Peninsula and can be best experienced by meeting the locals. Go to one of the farmer's markets, visit local galleries, dine at the restaurants, or enjoy a beverage at one of the local watering holes. Strike up a conversation with the residents of the area and get ready to hear some amazing stories about our community's history.

There are plenty of activities for all ages to enjoy during every month of the year. No matter what your interests are, we are here to connect you with the best that the area has to offer to make your Alaskan Adventure a very memorable experience.

Homer, which is less than an hour away, provides a full day of adventure while shopping in the galleries, visiting the Ocean and Islands Visitor Center, touring the Pratt Museum, strolling along the Homer Spit beach, and dining at one of its fine restaurants. On the way to or from Homer, stop at the Norman Lowell Gallery, just south of Anchor Point, to browse and enjoy Alaska's most renown landscape artist's paintings.
